Categories : Listening to Each Other

What does listening have to do with entrepreneurship,  anyway?  All over the world people are experiencing the connection.  I’ll be interviewing some of them, and sharing their stories periodically here on the blog.

Here’s one of my favorite examples of how listening sparks innovation across the globe.  Once you glimpse what’s possible,  you can apply these principles  in any field.

This TED talk is longer than most, but the speaker has crucial  insights for those of us who “just want to help people” with our work .   I don’t want you to miss this.

Here are some highlights:

1:30-3:00  a cautionary tale for everyone who wants to “help” anyone else

5:30-9:50 the power of listening

10:00-14:15 listening fuels entrepreneurship

14:20-17:00 the truth about entrepreneurship

And now I want to hear from you:   How can you apply these insights  to the work you’re called to do?

ps I did really like the comment about ‘planning being the death of entrepreneurship’ that gave me hope being a rotten planner …

If you perceive yourself as a “rotten planner” it probably means you have a strength in an opposite area, like adaptability. How can you play to that strength?

Thanks … this was a great link … and a good reminder … its always so hard for people to simply listen and not give advice .. and its the most healing action you can give …

You’re so welcome Meg, and I totally agree about the healing power of listening.

Hannah I love this, thank you. I have already sent it on to my brother, we are both entrepreneurs with an aversion to anything to do with financial matters, which has been a huge impediment for our business’s and dreams coming to fruition. We are creators, how fantastic that NOBODY has been found that can do all 3 things well ! PHEW I am feeling relief and happiness right now. Today whist i was listening about my business i said Lord it’s good to be “back on the bike” I heard you never got off you just stopped pedaling! Oh yes my fuel used to be selfish ambition thankfully and miraculously that has run dry, I’m changing fuel to Holy Spirit wind and direction. I’m excited about this blog and what’s in store for us . xx

Maree, you aren’t alone! I think many creative people receive ideas from God, but get held back by lies about money. One of the reasons that I’m so passionate about connecting kingdom driven entrepreneurs is so we can listen together about these challenges and learn from each other. What has God revealed to you so far about your aversion to money? I’m excited to see how your new fuel source will change your business!

I love this Hannah! How can I apply this. I thought I was to just go in and implement what I wanted to do but I think I need to go in and befriend more of those in my community. I will start on the small scale with my business to draw the willing and interested minds.

Leanne, I know you can relate to the isolation he talked about. I think you’re right that befriending like minded pioneers in your area will be very powerful. I’ll pray that as you listen, God will show you who to connect with and how to collaborate.
